The researchers at ESET are warning Android users to delete 42 apps available on Google Play Store as they contain harmful adware which can drain data, battery life as well as garner personal data.
ESET’s malware researcher Lukas Stefanko noted in one blog post that each of these identified 42 apps since have been taken down from Google’s Android store. However, these amassed an overall 8mn downloads during the time they were available but continue to remain available in a few 3rd-party application stores still.
Stefanko has listed 21 applications in question as well as detailed out package names related to remaining 21 applications via a blog post.
The applications that were listed out areSaveInsta, Smart Gallery, Free Radio FM Online, Mini lite for Facebook,Free social video downloader, Free Video Downloader, Water Drink Reminder, File Downloader, DU Recorder, Smart Notes for You, Heroes Jump, Tank classic,Ringtone Maker, Solucionario,Ringtone Maker Pro, Video downloader, HikeTop+, Basketball Perfect Shot, Flat Music Player,Free Top Video Downloader and MP4 video downloader.
In simple words, each of these ESET-identified applications were believed to be working as mentioned in their respective listing but contained harmful malware as well.
Though they were not named, the apps showed a presence in Apple App Store as well.
ESET is yet to learn who’s the developer responsible for the adware present in the app.
